Medusa is a musical instrument that continues the line of research of combining traditional Lutherie techniques with the possibilities of analog
electronic circuits. This piece takes inspiration from the Ctenophora phylum, marine organisms capable of generating light.
Through its internal circuits, this device can generate sound and light sequences based on the bioluminescent patterns of ctenophores. The upper
brass keyboard activates each of the steps of the sequence independently, modifying parameters such as speed, pitch, or color by the interpreter's body
capacitance.
This instrument is the first of a series of pieces that take their inspiration from specific organic processes, trying to adapt or recreate some of their characteristics through electronic circuits. The series (currently in the
developing stage) comprises Medusa, Arcella (inspired by the Amoebozoa phylum), Pseudomonas (inspired by P. Putida), and Mitochondria.
