Ombak is a sound meditation device built after a first experience playing Balinese gamelan instruments with the Indonesian composer Dewa Alit.
The name comes from the Indonesian word for 'wave', which designs the acoustic phenomenon that occurs when deliberately detuning different pairs of gamelan instruments. This difference of a few hertz can also happen between individual instruments, as in the case of the Gong Ageng.
Ombak comprises three sine generators which can be individually tuned to generate different beats and patterns, with an independent control of attack and volume. It is the first in a series of instruments that use gemstones in its construction.
